The initial lot is the first mass‑production run. Processes are still stabilizing, so quality issues are more common. Unless you must have it on day one, wait and buy from a later lot.


How do you tell? For popular products, you’ll often see “ships after” messaging once the first lot sells out—order then to get the next lot.


Another approach: check the serial/lot number printed on the box. Identify the numbering pattern from display units and pick newer numbers (e.g., starting with 1 or 2 rather than 0, depending on the scheme).



Prefer brands with generous warranties


Warranty terms vary widely by brand. Treat a bare‑minimum one‑year warranty as table stakes. When in doubt, choose the brand with the strongest warranty policy in the category.


Read the fine print. A wall of exclusions usually means “no coverage in practice.” Real users don’t operate in perfect conditions—if “normal use” is defined too narrowly, expect denials.
